My kids passed their next belt level! I am so proud, but they are even more proud of themselves than we are of them.

Did you do martial arts as a kid, or have your kids in martial arts?

  1. Oh yea.

My son is currently taking taekwondo. Because of his age (6) his master won’t let him test until December for his first stripe. However, at the rate he is going, he might double test straight into the next belt.

Shockingly enough, he enjoys sparring far more than forms.

I did Judo as a kid and competed my way up to Nikyū; a blue belt with a purple border, two belt grades before “dan” (black belt) graduation. Minors aren’t allowed to hold a “dan” belt until they’re 16, and when I was 14 I suffered a triple break in my ankle which put me out of all sports for a year. For some reason, I never went back.

I have thought about taking it up again, though, and have looked at one or two martial arts schools that provide adult beginner classes (since I’d have to start as a beginner again).

Sweet. I’m looking for a few bouncers. Can you forward me a price-list of their services?

  4. Ethan looks like he is in pain . . . Emilie looks happy. You think Emilie was squeezing a pressure point?

  5. Don Prestage says:

Daniel finally made it to brown belt after waiting a long time. He was more proud of that one than any of the others. He attends Bates ATA. Congrats.
